



L.A. Salsa is strongly influenced by the Mambo, emphasising sensuousness, theatricality, and most importantly, musicality. The two essential elements of this dance are the forward/backward basic, and the cross-body lead. L.A Salsa is a dance style that "shows off" the lady through a variety of turn patterns and stylings. Cuban Salsa is a mixture of African and Spanish rhythms that is often danced to music infused with bongos, congas and timbales. Danced in Cuba and Miami, but also popular in Europe and Asia, there are many communities all over the world dedicated to the dance style known as Rueda. The very earthy and grounded Cuban-style salsa can be danced as either as a couple dance, or a group, better known as the "Rueda de Casino" (circle dance). An essential element is the "Cuban step", also known as Guapea, and the cross body lead referred to as "Dile que no".
The original Bachata is from the Dominican Republic and this is the style that is danced in the Caribbean. Bachata is a free form style of dance, that is known for its basic side to side step with a "hip pop". The more modern style of bachata involves dancing in close proximity to your partner, enabling a strong lead; this is a very romantic dance style and easy to learn. Teaching style influenced by Island Touch.
Zouk was first developed in Rio de Janeiro, and is a modified, slower, smoother, even more sensual version of the Lambada. The basic step in Zouk is the glide along the ground in a forward and backward motion. With the infusion of Contemporary styles and Lambada, Zouk is a very sensual and captivating dance style.
